Friends of the Shelton Animal Shelter (FSAS)
. . . was established in 1996. It is a non-profit organization both led and staffed entirely by volunteers. Our aim is to prepare shelter animals for adoption into permanent, loving homes with responsible caretakers. Also, we work hard to improve conditions at the shelter, itself, with the hope of providing a higher quality of life for its temporary charges.
We have placed a strong emphasis on animal population control by providing for the neutering of each animal before it leaves the shelter, and by providing funding for low cost neutering of homeless cats in our community.
FSAS volunteers have provided for the vaccination, health assessments and neutering of hundreds of animals. We have also paid for medical care for many injured cats, which otherwise would have been destroyed, as the shelter currently does not have facilities to house cats. Our long term goal is to see the shelter facility either expanded or rebuilt to better accommodate the many needy animals in our community. That dream is about to become a reality, with the building of a new Shelton Animal Shelter beginning in 2013.
